Tigris’s Birds Choir

In 2008 a woman who loved Iraqi culture, Basad Idan idea founded the Tigris Birds choir.

Today Tigris Birds consists of Iraqi female singers who sing folkloric songs in a traditional Iraqi manner. And they want to convey a message of peace and love throughout the world.

When mystro Ala Majeed started training the group he added a new dimension to their technique by focusing on scientific and academic lessons Using solfège exercises he managed to improve the technique of all choir members

The choir is actively against violence, terrorism, injustice and especially the discrimination of women.

So far Tigris Birds has documented and recorded more than 92 traditional Iraqi songs for distribution to different radio stations and libraries in Arab- and European countries.

Tigris Birds arranges and participates in different festivals and other cultural arrangements. Through their songs promotes and advocate for the concept of equality and human rights.

Tigris Birds have performed 6 times in Stockholm. The first and second festival took place at Nybrokajen in 2009, 2010. After that, the festival was arranged in Jakobsberg Aula 2011. At Södra Teatern 2012, Berwaldhallen 2014 and Grand Hotell 2016.
In Berwaldhallen we used a new concept and performed ten arrangements of Iraqi traditional music with instruments that are not commonly used in this music. Then sang the choir with Symphony Orchestra Pro Musica. The concert was played by Sveriges Radio and broadcast in P2.
Tigris Birds has also participated in three Arab International Festivals: the Sixth International Al-Maalouf Music Festival in Constantine in Algeria 2012 and the Seventeenth Music Festival in Kuwait 2014 and Baghdad dag festival in 2016.
Tigris Birds has participated in a Rival hotel for vulnerable children moving from the war in northern Syria and Iraq with various Swedish singers and politicians. Tigris Birds participates in musical programs at the Sigtunastiftelsen for humanitarian purposes and has had different church performances and participated in peace gales. Our concerts have been recorded and broadcast by various Arab and Iraqi television channels.

The Swedish State Television (Sveriges Television) has produced a documentary film about us which was awarded many prices.

In 2014 Tigiris Birds where appointed ambassadors of peace by the Swiss organization Non-Violence.

During 2014, the choir is planning and training for their fifth concert.

The Choir’s premier record was produced in 2012. It became a success and showed a real interest for their music from the rest of the world, choir have produced 3 album records.
